Week 2 Friday pm

So Friday on my way home I swing by Rox's and Ryan's house to pick up some hockey tickets. I take Leavenworth from downtown all the way to Saddle Creek. To my suprise I see that Leavenworth Street is already wide enough for a bike lane and all that is needed is some paint. Ok city officials if your reading this, please paint some bike lanes on this road. How much easier could this be?

I hear the city is seriously considering turning levenworth into three car lanes with bike lanes.

Lets hope so. I've contacted my city councilman and a public works person that told me they would do a study on it. He said Leavenworth sees 18,000 cars a day and that 2 lanes wouldn't work but 3 might. From what I've seen I think it's their best option.

Leavenworth does seem wide enough for lanes. Cyclists ride it often enough, anyway. I do know that it will get a lane between Park Ave and the Old Market, and that the city had planned for a 4-3 lane conversion with bike lanes between Elmwood Park and Saddlecreek, but scrapped that plan.

I blogged about the plan here, if you're interested:
